Mitch is ready to take on the Kiwis in the day/night Test, the first of a 3 match series in Perth, commencing Thursday, 12 December, 2019, on what is expected to be a fast and bouncy pitch to suit the Australian fast bowling cartel.
After being the leader wicket taker (14) in the two Test series v Pakistan, Australia will be looking to Mitch to continue his good form, especially with the pink ball, where he continues to dominate.
And there is plenty to aim for as he closes in on a top 10 position on the all-time Australian wicket taker list.
Currently sitting on 229 Test wickets from his 54 matches, Mitch only needs another 17 wickets to catch Graham McKenzie who sits on 246. What is equally impressive, is his strike rate, capturing a wicket every 48.9 balls, the best rate of any Australian bowler who has taken 200 wickets or more.
If Mitch can reach the magical 250 mark, he will also pass the legendary Richie Benaud, who currently sits in 9th place on 248.
